Heavy Duty Lathe Machine

Heavy-duty lathes typically refer to horizontal lathes with a maximum machining diameter of ≥ 800mm and a load capacity ranging from several tons to hundreds of tons. They represent not just an increase in size but a comprehensive upgrade in structure, rigidity, drive power, and precision, aiming to ensure high material removal rates, high stability, and long-term accuracy under heavy cutting conditions.

Compared to the ordinary lathe machine, the superior performance of the heavy-duty lathe stems from the following key design features: ultra-strong structural rigidity and a high-power drive system. The bed is made of high-quality cast iron or welded steel structure, usually filled with concrete or damping materials to absorb vibrations, and its immense weight ensures absolute stability. It features ultra-wide hydrostatic guideways or hardened steel guideways. Hydrostatic guideways support the load through an oil film, resulting in a near-zero friction coefficient, allowing them to carry enormous weight while achieving micron-level smooth movement and offering a very long lifespan. The spindle is driven by a high-torque AC variable frequency motor or DC motor, with power often reaching tens to hundreds of kilowatts. The spindle bearings are high-precision, large-sized roller bearings or hydrostatic bearings, ensuring low deformation and high-precision rotation under heavy loads. The feed system is driven by a high-torque servo motor, coupled with a heavy-duty ball screw or double gear rack backlash elimination mechanism, ensuring precise and stable feed of the tool post under enormous cutting forces.
